Our Teachers
Our teachers at Steppers are dedicated and educated in our philosophy that we are facilitators of learning. The emergent curriculum utilized here is inspired by the early education settings in Reggio Emilia, Italy, where children's interests and curiosity drive the learning without the pressures of a completely structured curriculum or schedule. Teachers focus on authentic learning experiences where children put their hands on real life problems and create genuine solutions on a daily basis.
All staff are completing the S.E.E.D. and SEW program to strengthen our work with social/emotional development for all children and self-awareness to improve our own well-being. All staff members have undergone record check and fingerprinting and receives a minimum of 15 hours of training each year. Additionally, we are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children which holds our program and teachers to an international standards that are greater than the State of Vermont regulations for training and performance.

We take our role as models for future educators seriously and have benefitted greatly from the energies, interests and dedication of the UVM students we host each semester. The children get to love these future teacher-leaders and celebrate when they have something special happening in their lives!
Each family is greeted by one or more teachers at the door each morning and your child will be introduced to diverse range of enquiry-base learning engagements where they may explore for as long or short period as they need. We maintain a 1:4 ratio of teachers-to-children so we may respond quickly to the needs of each child and expand on interests without the stressor of having to adhere to strict schedules. These teachers will also greet you in the afternoon when you pick up your child and be able to share how the day went and what exciting new explorations occurred.
Throughout the day, teachers post updated happenings and candid photos of your child at work through the BrightWheel software application available for your phone or computer. You may send messages and requests via BrightWheel and remain in contact with the program while your child is present. It is also the method through which we reach out to parents when there is a change in plans or special event coming up so you are always aware of the happenings at Steppers.
